9/15 Socialization of Sport

The focus today is on the importance of sport and the socialization of sport.
We will be looking at a fun movie--The Sandlot--to show the important aspects of the socialization of sports.  The follow-up to this video is the following:

The Sandlot
This movie says much about sport in our culture.
Using specific examples from the movie answer the following question:

What does the sandlot provide for the players on the “team”?
Hint:  Think about things in and out of the game.

You must have a minimum of three (3) things the players gain from the experience of playing in the ?sandlot.

Use proper essay technique.
These simple steps will guide you through the essay writing process:

Decide on your topic.
Prepare an outline or diagram of your ideas.
Write your thesis statement.
Write the body.
Write the main points.
Write the subpoints.
Elaborate on the subpoints.

Write the introduction.

Write the conclusion.
Add the finishing touches.

Essays are due on 9/17 either typed or written in blue/black ink.

Welcome to Sports History!  This is a very fun class that explores Sports in American History.

Our first unit will focus on the importance of sports in our society, and what the essential background for sports formation are.

The Syllabus was passed out and gone over on 9/10 and is due on Monday 9/14.
